Hotel Alcala

The hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and efficient, and the downstairs restaurant serves good food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with plenty of choices. It’s also within walking distance of the David bus terminal and several other restaurants. The rooms aren’t fancy, but they’re exceptionally clean and comfortable. One of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed in.

The restaurant’s a bit unpredictable, though there’s a nice range of dishes and the service is good. The staff were helpful and very friendly. From the outside the place seems tiny, but it opens up into a huge hotel upstairs, with sitting areas and a smoking patio on every floor. The rooms are spacious, although the bed could be better and the AC is old. I had a good experience and would recommend it. I gave it 3 stars, though it’s more like 3.5.

The staff are nice, and they’re not to blame for having to work in such an outdated place. But I don’t recommend this hotel. The air conditioner must be at least 30 years old, doesn’t fit the wall, and doesn’t work properly. It trembles all night, with unbearable noise that makes sleep impossible. I ended up moving rooms at 10 PM. This is the worst place I’ve stayed.

My wife and I really enjoy stopping by for breakfast. The restaurant is lovely and the service is good. I haven’t stayed in their rooms, though friends have told me they enjoyed their stay. I just wish they’d add “real” juices to the drinks menu.
