La Perla del Pacifico - Hostel

We spent four nights here, working remotely and surfing. It was super quiet all week, and the food, surf lessons, and attention from the staff were all great. Had a great time, would recommend 100%.

We stayed for five nights, and the rooms were really clean. Breakfast had five options to choose from, all fresh and tasty, and the owner was super nice and gave us lots of ideas for things to do nearby. We booked a hiking trip with a guide, about six hours including the drives, to a beautiful waterfall and a spot with a wonderful view. Really recommend that tour. And try their mojitos, they're so good! Highly recommend this place. 😇

Watch out for the hot sand on the walk to the beach between eleven and one. The location is beautiful. Have a great stay.

After this arrival, I told my wife we couldn't stay. The place had a ramshackle feel, there was a run-down bus on the next lot, and the neighborhood felt sketchy, with a boarded-up restaurant. To be fair, the people at the cafe where we got a Coke were pleasant and helpful. Inside the room, the bed and furnishings looked much better cared for than the exterior. But first we arrived a bit ahead of check-in to locked doors and padlocked iron gates. I had to use the bathroom, so I circled the property for 5-10 minutes, knocking on windows and rattling doors. There was a pile of dog waste about 25 feet from the bar in what I assumed was the lounge area. A dog started barking, and a young woman eventually came to the door. She was friendly enough, but told me there were no banos when I pleaded to use one. That wasn't true. I kept asking, “Banos... andele, andele, rapido, emergencia,” until she checked a clipboard for our reservation and finally let me into a room. The property wouldn't refund my money, but after several texts, emails, and a firm phone call, Expedia eventually covered my $297 refund. We took an Uber and found better accommodations a few cities away.
