I stayed six days at the Sheraton Grand Panama. The property is nice, and some staff members are friendly, though others seemed warmer toward certain people. Both rooms I was given smelled moldy, and they were dated. The bathrooms were so cramped it was hard to get in and close the door. The first room was set to 22°C at check-in. I raised it to 26, but during the night it had dropped to 16. For the next day or two, it wouldn’t go above 17.5°C, even with the setting at about 35. I went to the front desk three times, and my father went too, before maintenance came. Two hours later it still wouldn’t rise above 17. A woman travelling with our group also said the thermostat in her room wouldn’t go down. They moved me to another room after I went back to the desk. That one smelled moldy too. It was set to 70°F, which was better than the first room, but it also wouldn’t go any higher. On March 7, I was out for a few hours in the morning. Housekeeping cleaned my room, and then around 7:30 that evening, while I was naked in bed after a shower, I heard the faintest taps. I wasn’t even sure they were knocks. Less than five seconds later, the door started opening, and someone quietly said “hola,” as if checking whether the room was empty. I said “NO NO NO” and had to get up naked to shut the door, while the woman kept trying to push her way in. I’ve never had housekeeping come in the evening, much less more than once in a day. At the desk I asked when and how often they came. The woman said it could be day or night, but only once a day unless requested. I told her the room had already been cleaned that afternoon and someone had just opened the door. She checked the computer, then said she didn’t know why anyone had come because they hadn’t notified the supervisor. After more back and forth, she got a male manager. I explained how this didn’t match what I’d been told about the cleaning policy. He just repeated that the room had to be cleaned before 8 pm. I pointed out again that it had already been cleaned, and he repeated the same answer. When I got understandably frustrated, he said I was raising my voice and needed to calm down. I left because I wasn’t getting any help, and it seemed they didn’t care about this alarming situation or their guests’ wellbeing. A few minutes later, my sister sent me a screenshot of a Google review from six months earlier where a woman said housekeeping stole her jewelry. This hotel feels shady. I suspect a lot of staff may be involved, and they clearly don’t care. I’ll contact anyone I can about what happened.

The hotel has a nice pool, a sauna, and plenty of other good facilities. The room price isn’t my issue, but breakfast and laundry cost way too much. Breakfast is good, but I’m not paying $22 when I only want something small and a coffee. Laundry is ridiculous too. Check the photo: 100 meters down the road, I washed a full bag for $8, while the hotel charges $5 for one shirt. Sorry, Sheraton, with reasonable prices for breakfast and laundry, this would’ve been five stars.

The bed was comfortable, and the property has a lot of space and potential. But the hotel is dated, and the staff seemed new and badly trained. The breakfast and all-day dining menu are limited, and the servers don’t know what’s on it. My large suite needed a major overhaul. The bathtub filled up and wouldn’t drain, the shower head was badly sulfated and oxidized, and I found live bugs in the room. The TV had only basic channels, took ages to switch, and wasn’t a smart TV for streaming. The service needs training, and the property needs a major renovation.

I felt right at home on my first visit to Panamá. The hotel, staff, and restaurants were all amazing, and I loved the location. There’s a nice casino and bar too. I’ll definitely go back, and I really recommend it.

The hotel is beautiful, and I enjoyed the brunch, especially the desserts and meat choices. Self-parking was affordable too: I paid $5 for 3-4 hours. I’ll definitely come back.
