El Tambo Mapi

We had to head out at 4:30am, and the owner made us a snack box with fruit and sandwiches. He went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend.

Breakfast was pretty limited, just cold cereal, boiled eggs, and coffee. The bedsheets had that sour smell of fabric washed and left too long to dry. The room itself was basic, as you'd expect from a 3 star hotel, but the bathroom felt damp and musty. The walls were wet, and the shower curtains smelled awful. Wouldn't recommend.

When the strike left us stranded, the man running the hotel made several calls for us and shared information about another way back to Cusco. He was a huge help. The rooms are comfortable and the shower is good, and breakfast had plenty to choose from, including fruit, eggs, ham, cheese, cereal, and coffee. A good mid range option near the train station, assuming nobody's being held hostage.

The staff were helpful, but the room smelled terrible, had stains everywhere, and barely any ventilation. The lobby was dark, and there's no elevator. It felt like a one star hotel, not a three star one, and we ended up leaving for somewhere else.
