Hotel Rio Dorado Machupicchu

After a long day, all I wanted was a quick shower and some sleep before my 5 AM hike to Machu Picchu. Instead, I spent 45 minutes fighting the shower knobs. It took about a minute for each adjustment to change the water temperature, and when water finally came out, it was either freezing or scalding, with no comfortable setting. I tried every combination I could think of. Even when I managed to get tolerable water, the temperature changed again a minute later and burned my skin. The beds were horribly uncomfortable, the bathroom was covered in mold, and the whole place looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or vacuumed in months. My usually nonexistent allergies flared up. No one on-site spoke English or seemed able to help, which made an already awful stay more stressful. From the start, things felt wrong. I tried to overlook the dirty sofa, broken TV pointed at the ceiling, dust hanging in the air, and flickering lights, thinking it might just be small-town conditions. But all of that, along with the shower, was too much. I’ve stayed in rough places while traveling, but nothing has come close to this. Don’t waste your money here. I truly hope nobody else has to go through what I did.
