Don’t waste your money staying here. On a Thursday night, a Peruvian folk music band set up on the street corner and played through full-volume speakers from 10 to 11 PM. I complained to the police and the hotel, but neither did anything. On an ordinary night, I was woken at 2 AM by drunks walking past. The staff don’t care whether guests get a decent night’s sleep. Horrible experience and terrible management.

My room was clean and nice, with a great view, and I’d stay here again. The hotel is right on the plaza, though it’s easy to walk past since the entrance is just a doorway and the lobby is upstairs on the second floor. Getting to my room meant climbing 70 steps, as there’s no elevator. It can also get pretty noisy at night, so it’s not for light sleepers.

The place feels a little outdated, but the location and price make up for it. It’s right in the center of plaza de armas, surrounded by restaurants, stores and shops, and just a couple of blocks from Santa Catalina Monastery. The rooftop bar/restaurant is nice too. I’d recommend it.

The terrace is the main reason to go: the panorama over Plaza de Armas, Basílica Catedral de Arequipa and the city is incredible. The bar itself doesn’t have anything else especially remarkable. Prices aren’t the most competitive, but they’re fair.
