Hostal Bubamara

‼️Warning‼️ 【I lost cash at this hostal】 I stayed at Hostal Bubamara from 17NOV-19NOV 2024, then left my baggage there from 19NOV-20NOV while I went on a 2 days tour to Colca. On the morning of 19Nov, a staff member said I could leave it in the lobby and that it was safe because there was CCTV (camera). After returning from the tour on 20Nov, I checked my baggage and found that US dollar cash, 450$, was gone. I'm sure how much cash I had before leaving. I spoke with the hostal, but felt they didn't want to help. They said it was my problem for not looking after my money and didn't want to call police. I asked to see the video when I discovered the money was missing. The hostal said my things had been moved to another space without CCTV. It's WEIRD that my money went missing after the hostal moved my baggage somewhere only staff can access, with no camera, and they didn't want to help. Not friendly to travelers!! I went to the Police office. The hostal said that if I reported it and couldn't find proof against them, they would sue me. I still don't know where the money went~~but it disappeared after I left it at this hostal for the 19Nov-20Nov period. Please look after your belongings and baggage at all times, wherever you are. Nobody can be responsible for them, even if you trust them.

The staff were fantastic, especially Miguel. After three months of traveling, this is one of the best hostels I've stayed in across South America. There’s a hot shower, strong WiFi, a quiet room with lots of space, an upstairs patio, breakfast, and reception open 24 hours. The location is great too, on a main street and just five minutes from the main square. Recommended!

We emailed ahead to say our bus would get in around 5:30-6:00AM, and they replied that it was fine. Their website also says reception is open 24 hours. Still, we rang the front door for 40minutes and nobody answered. The phone number didn't work either. Drunk people were harassing us in the street, so we left and found somewhere else to stay.

The rooms are spacious, bright, airy, and lovely. Towels and soap were provided, though there was no shampoo, which was fine for the price. The location is great, near monastery Santa Catalina and the good places to eat on San Francisco Street.
