Hostal Virreinal AQP

It’s a quiet place with no noise, and the internet works reasonably well. The rooms are nice, but it didn’t feel very social or much like a hostel. Breakfast is a normal Peruvian one, with egg, bread, and jam rather than an American-style spread. A decent choice for one or two nights, though nothing spectacular.

Everything worked okay, and it was quiet and safe. Breakfast was decent, though it wasn’t buffet-style. The location isn’t far from the Plaza de Armas, but I preferred my other stays west of there, up to Mondo Alpaca, where it felt more touristy. The atmosphere here seemed a bit cold, with no foyer or shared kitchen, and they charge for a liter of hot water. In the hotel photo, you can spot three high-voltage lines above the entry door. That gave me a bit of a military-complex feeling, not a relaxing vacation vibe 🤣.

It’s quiet at night and close enough to the central square to be convenient. The hosts were kind and accommodating: they let us leave our bags when we arrived early and again when we were leaving late in the evening. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, and breakfast was simple but delicious. Our best stay in Peru so far. I’d gladly come back.

We chose the cheapest room, which had no view and a window facing a wall, but there was no trouble getting fresh air. The hotel is basic and close to the city center, with a nice breakfast terrace and a view. The room looked much more modern in the photos than it did in person. One night, a disco nearby was really loud until probably 2 am. And come on, the breakfast coffee is instant. That’s a shame.
