I spent almost two weeks at Limbo Jump Hostel while taking Spanish lessons in Arequipa. It’s new and clean, with comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen guests can use. The main plaza is about a 10-minute walk away. The Italian owner was very friendly and cooked spaghetti for all the guests one night.

Mino and Carlos were kind and helpful, and staying here felt like being in someone’s home. It’s decorated really nicely, though my photos don’t do it justice. The place is super clean, the beds are very comfortable and have power sockets, and the lockers are large. Breakfast is great, the kitchen is excellent, the showers are hot, and the WiFi is good. The price is right too. What more could you want?

Even though not many people were staying there, which I’d been a bit worried about as a solo traveler hoping to meet people, the few guests became like family, including Carlos. We had cozy dinners together using the great kitchen, and went out as a little group to places he recommended. Once, when we were stuck for somewhere to eat in the center, we called him for advice and he was happy to help. He was also very patient and kind while helping me practice my Spanish. There were blankets in the social area, plus cute displays of toiletries, food, and other essentials for sale. Everything seemed thought through. The hostel was spotlessly clean without feeling clinical, and had plenty of homey character. Every bed had a power socket, and the lockers were huge with locks provided. They could fit everything you owned and kept the dorms tidy, even when full. Renting a locker during treks cost 5 pesos, and a towel was the same price, though I didn’t stay long enough to need either. There was a spacious common area with blankets, and the rooms and beds were warm. I never felt cold here, which is rare in Peru. The beds were better than mine at home, like sleeping on a warm cloud under a thick, comfortable blanket. The bathrooms were spacious, with hot showers, a hairdryer, and no freezing bathroom chill. There was room for my morning yoga too. After an exhausting 18-hour bus journey, I arrived early in the morning with high hopes. Carlos, the hotel manager and star of the show, had already messaged to check I was getting there safely and ask if he should prepare breakfast in case we arrived early. He welcomed us into the warm, spotless reception, which smelled of comforting incense and had a lounge full of character. Despite check-in being another 4-5 hours away, he sat us down and made a delicious breakfast of eggs the way we liked, bread, jam, a fresh fruit smoothie, and sometimes a few other additions. When I said I loved palta with my eggs, he brought some for breakfast the next day. Then he said we could check in after eating and sleep. I was in heaven. Laundry was amazing too, with same-day service. Carlos has magic hands for washing, ironing, and folding. My luggage somehow felt roomier once the clean clothes were packed away. My only small criticisms would be that the place could use a full-length mirror, and that guests have to ring the bell to get in. The door policy is fine, but it might make things easier for hardworking Carlos if he didn’t have to man the door all the time.

I spent four nights here in August during my visit to Arequipa and couldn’t have picked a better hostel. It’s a real gem. The place was super clean, the beds were comfortable, and the showers and bathrooms were the best I’d seen in Peruvian hostels. I’d be happy to come back.

About a 10-minute walk to the center, with very friendly and helpful staff, good facilities, and comfy beds. The place is amazingly clean too. Great for the price, 10/10.
