Maison du Soleil

We loved the welcoming staff, spotless rooms, and the rooftop view. This was one of the best hotels we stayed at in Peru, and we’re looking forward to coming back.

Our room was clean and comfortable, though the bathroom was tiny with very little space. The neighborhood felt safe, and the main square is within walking distance even though the hotel isn’t right in the center. Hotel Maison du Soleil is a lovely place for a peaceful stay near the city’s main sights.

There’s a bakery just across the street with amazing empanadas, alfajores, coffees, and teas. Breakfast isn’t included with every reservation, and I think that depends on how you book. We were there during Arequipas festivities in August and were surprised to find the “Tunas show” right outside the building. Groups from different colleges and country sang and played instruments, and we opened our window to enjoy the music while ordering a couple of delicious Pisco Sours from the downstairs restaurant. The food and service there were fantastic. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and eager to help, and the downtown location puts shops, attractions, and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were very clean, but the carpets could use an update. Bring sandals or slippers if that bothers you. I’d definitely stay here again if I returned to Arequipa.

The rooftop was really nice, with views of the city and mountains. I stayed here twice, in two different rooms, and both were very nice with extremely comfortable beds. It’s close to everything, though not right in the middle of Arequipa. I found good discounts on booking.com that made it much cheaper than similar places.
