The trains are the main thing to keep in mind. The tracks are about a block and a half away, and you can hear the familiar whistle and feel them pass. There's a major intersection nearby, so the trains sound a warning. The last one I heard went by at midnight, when I was already exhausted, and the first of the day was at 5:00 a.m. I don't know whether another passed during the night. The hotel doesn't shake, but the noise is disruptive if you're a light sleeper. It's an affordable option worth considering, and better than some others. It's between Arequipa's bus terminal and main square. The area feels safe, the staff were friendly, and the 2019 hotel was tidy and clean. My room was spacious, with a decent bathroom, and the price was reasonable. The buffet breakfast is very basic, depending on your expectations, and utensils like the sugar bowl weren't clean, as the photo shows.

Pretty much what you'd expect from a decent three-star hotel: a warm bed, TV and internet, and things are clean. It's quiet, too. There is hot water, though not all the time. Breakfast was so-so, not very filling and nothing like the picture.

They showed no respect at all for guests' sleep or exhaustion. I couldn't get to sleep until 1 a.m. because a group of drunk people upstairs, above my fourth-floor room, were shouting and making a scene. I called four times to complain. Instead of dealing with them, the staff moved me to another room after I'd already gotten ready for bed. From 6 a.m. on, there was more noise from cleaning, along with children shouting. This was the worst hotel I could have stayed at in Arequipa.
