Vita Hoteles Arequipa

The location in the heart of Arequipa is nice, though it comes with some downsides. Breakfast was disappointing: the coffee tasted mostly like water and the eggs were cold, although the fruit was good. The room looked clean at first, but closer inspection showed it wasn't. None of the sockets worked, and it was freezing. When we came back at night, we asked the receptionist for water and she gave us some. The next day, when we were leaving, we were told we still owed a bill for it: 6 soles per bottle.

For the price, the location is good, but I’d rate the hotel closer to two stars than three. The rooms get hot, and staff’s suggestion was to open the windows. Ours faced the restaurant kitchen, so it was really noisy. A fan helped a little, but the outlets were so loose that plugging anything in was difficult. If you’re heading to Colca Canyon or need to store valuables, take them somewhere else. Their luggage storage is just a corner of the lobby.

The staff were very polite and helpful, and the shower had hot water with great pressure. It’s ideally placed for visiting Arequipa’s sights, and they’ll store luggage if you’re going to Colca. The rooms are small and no-frills, but fine for this location. Breakfast was satisfactory. Early check-in and late checkout are available for a fee.

The bed was very comfortable, and once the shower warmed up it stayed hot and felt good. But we’d asked for a quiet room, and music, cleaning, and maintenance started at 6 am, so sleeping in wasn’t possible. The walls are thin too. Staff asked us three times a day which room we were in, which didn’t feel welcoming. Even though our room was ready, arriving just an hour early would have cost an extra $25.
