Mamaq Tambo Lodge

The food is delicious, and this is such a peaceful, beautiful place. The owner was attentive and helped us plan time in the region. She arranged a weaving demonstration and shared information about a ceramics workshop outside of chachapoyas. She clearly knows people in the area, and those workshops were the highlights of our trip.

After a lot of travel, we really appreciated this lodge. It manages to feel both luxurious and homey, with great food and thoughtful amenities, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Carmen helped with all sorts of arrangements, including finding drivers locally and in Lima, where she sent us with drivers she likes. She also runs a bed and breakfast in Barranco, on the coast just outside the busier, popular Miraflores area. We stayed there too and were very happy. Thanks, Carmen!

We spent two nights here and had a wonderful time. The view of Gocta falls, the location, the food, and the service were just what we’d hoped for. Carmen was an amazing host. September worked well for us because there weren’t too many people around, though I’d love to return in the rainy season and see all the surrounding waterfalls flowing.

We felt so well cared for at Mamaq and fell in love with both Mamaq and Cocachimba. Our hacienda was clean, comfortable, and luxurious, with beautiful views of Gocta. Judith cooked for us during our two-night stay, and she’s truly gifted. Carmen, Francesco, the whole Mamaq team, and even the dogs were wonderful. We’ll certainly be back.
