Aviro Hotel

The room was clean enough, but the rest of the stay wasn't worth 100 soles for a single room. I arrived spontaneously for one night and found out I'd been assigned the only room without AC, though it seemed hard to believe that was the only one available. The price was still the same. Breakfast came with the room, but the choices were limited and there was no buffet. There was only one other guest around. Both taps ran cold, so there was no hot water. And after arriving at 3 a.m., getting a knock at 7:45 to say breakfast ended at 9 was a nuisance. There are better places to stay for that price.

The rooms and linens were especially tidy and clean, and I liked the complimentary toiletries. The daytime receptionist was friendly and clear when speaking with us. It's a traditional-looking place with wood details in a central spot, easy to reach and close to plazas, cafes, restaurants, banks, and other places.

I booked a quadruple room for October 11th and 12th, 20 days ahead, but was given a room without windows. After I complained, the staff understood and offered a double room instead. I accepted because I was exhausted, even though I'd booked for four people, and they only gave us two towels. The manager had the AC connected to a 20-amp box that switched off after about an hour. It felt like they were offering the service only if you didn't actually use electricity. It's a shame, because the hotel was good back when it was called Heliconia Hotel. Now it's hot, the AC claim doesn't match the reality, and the service is terrible. Never again. Thanks.

There's a lovely view over a plaza in La Merced, and the hotel has AC and a good breakfast. For a swim, guests can get free entry to a recreation center with a pool about 7 minutes away by motorbike. It's a nice place to unwind.
