My plans changed, and after I politely told the hotel I’d stay just one night, I was given a choice: cancel everything or pay more. A memorable lesson in how flexibility works here. Later that evening, the owner’s son, who looked no older than about 17, took center stage while his mother watched. He raised his voice and made me feel intimidated. The staff told me to “leave” but stayed in my room as I packed, while someone urgently inspected the bathroom. The whole interaction between mother and son felt intense. The worst part was that I felt unsafe as a solo female traveler. A hotel can enforce its policies without creating a hostile, uncomfortable scene, and this did not feel professional. Policies exist, but professionalism should too. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Family-run drama, front-row seat included.

There are cool lounges where you can sit and relax, and it’s a lovely hotel overall. The staff were great and helpful. My main criticism is that there was no fridge in the room, which I’ve come to expect when traveling in warm climates. Breakfast wasn’t that good either: some days the bread seemed stale, and the portions were small.

The location is up a very steep hill. On the plus side, they cleaned the room and changed the towels each day, and provided clean drinking water, tea and coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke some English, but we had several problems. My bed had bedbugs, which I hope is a first and last for me. The room had no natural light and felt very dingy. Breakfast wasn’t very nice and portions were tiny. The free WiFi was slow and unreliable.

The price was amazing for what you get, and the breakfast view was just as impressive. Staff were attentive and ready to help with everything. I was very pleased with my stay.
