Blacky Hostel - Adults only

The apartment was roomy, clean, and well equipped, and it's under a 10-minute walk to the main square in Plaza de Armas. The one downside was the noise at times, since its windows look onto the hostel's main common area.

After switching hostels three times in Cusco, I finally found this little jewel, Blacky Hostel. It's about a 10-minute walk to the main plaza, and I loved the spacious capsule beds. Each person gets a huge locker big enough for a large backpack. I've stayed here twice and left my luggage while doing the Inka Trail. Luciana, the owner, is very kind and quick to respond on WhatsApp. The cute kitchen has everything you need, the bathrooms are cleaned several times a day, the showers are hot, and the wifi is strong. I absolutely loved staying here and would come back anytime. A wonderful base for tours!

The private room was spotless, but the bed felt small for two and the sofa bed was really uncomfortable. We chose a room with a window because there's no AC or fans in Cusco, then found that the windows looked straight into the hostel lobby. The shower also had no hot water. It's a nice hostel, but getting to the room means climbing stairs like up to an attic. It's a little far from the center because it's uphill, though that's true of everywhere in Cusco. We stayed two nights.

The bed was comfortable and well cared for, and they have a lovely cuddly, well-trained dog. There are lots of board games in the common area too. It was a bit cold while we were there, noticeable but nothing unbearable. The place is close to several plazas, which made trips to museums and restaurants easy. The customer support was refreshing: quick replies that actually answered our questions. They helped a lot when we were trying to find out about a lost item, and stayed communicative and cooperative throughout. They also looked after my fiancée and me during the inka trail, keeping most of our bags while we were away even though we didn't have a room. I'd love to see them hold a few more communal events so guests can connect.
