After our Inca Trail hike, my girl and I were pleasantly surprised by the facilities, staff, and location. It’s between San Pedro Market and the historic town center, with a very short walk into town. All the tour companies pick up here, and there are loads of local stores and shops nearby. The staff were amazing, breakfast was neat and plentiful, and Bernard was a fantastic source of information about local happenings.

The place was decently clean and the staff were friendly, but basic necessities weren’t provided, not even one small bottle of water at reception or later. The constant noise made the stay unbearable. Loud bass music played day and night from a nearby business, and sound carried through the hallways too. It might be an issue at other nearby hotels as well, but the hotel and the Police wouldn’t do anything. Even people who usually sleep soundly could have trouble with the bass and vibrations. See video attached. We were nearly sleep deprived for 72 hours and had hikes coming up in the next few days.

The receptionists were very friendly and stored our luggage when we left for a day or two, for example, to visit Machu Picchu. The hotel is in a good central Cusco location near Plaza de Armas. Sleep was a problem because there was virtually no soundproofing, perhaps because of the doors or windows. We could hear everything in the hallways late at night and early in the morning. The bathroom fell below expectations, the sink leaked underneath and smelled unpleasant, and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. For a budget-friendly stay of 1-2 nights before going to Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, or Rainbow Mountain, it could work if a truly restful night isn’t a priority. It’s a simple bed-and-breakfast or hostel-style hotel. I’d give it 3/5 stars.

The staff were great, as others have said. But the room had an extreme damp, detergent-like smell. There was no hot water on two mornings in a row before our tours. After the first night, I also ended up with a tonne of insect bites. The bed may have had fleas or bugs, but it’s hard to confirm.

The location and the friendly staff are the only things I can give this place credit for. The noise is relentless, from inside the hotel and out on the street, so getting any sleep is a real challenge. The beds are among the worst I’ve slept in, and I woke up with a stiff neck. The room was dirty too. There was mold all over the shower ceiling, the clogged drain meant I ended up bathing while showering, and I found black hairs in the comforter. The carpet looks ancient, like it hasn’t been cleaned since it was put in sometime around 1940. They say the rooms are heated, but that only happens if they bring you a plug-in heater. The airport shuttle costs 35 Sols and isn’t included. At least someone greets you with a smile when you come and go, and there’s a bar nearby to help forget the stay.
