The service was really nice, and the location is hard to beat if you're arriving by train, since the hotel is just steps from the station. Our room, though, was almost unusable and in bad shape. There was nowhere around the sink to set anything, no hook for a towel, and the sockets were coming out of the wall. I had to prop them up with a chair to charge my phone.

Being in a former monastery gives the hotel a truly unusual setting, and the idea of turning it into a hotel is excellent. But the upkeep lets it down. The ceiling leaks, which affects both comfort and safety. Whatever the concept, basic maintenance matters, and with this neglect the hotel doesn't live up to what it could be.

The rooms are fairly plain and small compared with the lovely building and common areas. Breakfast was excellent, and the location is excellent too, in the old city beside a train station.

Our room was spacious, with a large comfortable bed and a roomy bathroom. It could get too cold, though, and the little heater wasn't enough to warm it properly. Hotel Monasterio San Pedro is connected to San Pedro Monastery, as its name suggests. The shared spaces and gardens have local-style decoration, and we especially liked the garden with its alpaca statues. The hotel is a short walk from Cusco's main square. Breakfast each morning was nice, with juice, yogurt, fruit, and cold cuts.
