Quechua Hostal de Recoleta

I came back at about 8:30 PM on May 26 after being out all day, ready to pack and leave. That’s when I found that staff had taken all my belongings out of my room and moved them elsewhere without asking, then put other guests in my original room. I felt deeply unsafe. They handled my personal things without even telling me, and I had no time to check whether anything else was missing before leaving for the airport. I only spotted that my slippers were gone; after I said something, they brought them back. I’d arrived at 6:00 AM and, using Google Translate because I don’t speak Spanish, told staff I needed the room only until 8:30-9:30 PM and wouldn’t stay overnight. The administrator was rude and aggressive when I raised what had happened, and didn’t apologize. This was the worst hotel experience of my life. They can enter your room and move your things without notice or consent, so I consider the place unsafe. If I’d had more time, I would have reported it to the police. Tourists, please be careful. I strongly do NOT recommend staying here. I paid them directly instead of booking through booking.com, otherwise I would have left this feedback there too.

The breakfast buffet was handy, with enough choices that you should find something you like. The hotel also has a quiet spot in a little alley, away from noise, and you can leave your bags there if needed. We’ve tried a few places in Cusco, and this has been our favorite so far. Good value for the price, kind people and good service. Our room was spacious and clean, and the shower was magic, with strong pressure and hot water all the time. That’s much appreciated in Cusco.

The street leading to the hostel is so narrow that cars can’t get in, but the location is still great. Everything was spotless, the shower had hot water, and breakfast was good. Staff are really lovely and help with just about anything. It felt safe, and the price was more than fair. If I’m back in Cuzco, this is where I’ll stay.

The staff were super friendly during our six days here. Just a heads-up, they don’t speak English, so you’ll need Google Translate. Bring cash for water or portable oxygen. Credit cards are accepted too, but there’s a 5% commission fee.
