Aldos Guest House

The double room was really comfortable, the location was perfect, and Aldo was incredibly helpful with hike bookings and information. The hostel itself is beautiful, social, and relaxed. My reason for not giving five stars was the staff while Aldo seemed to be away. They seemed not very bothered: breakfast came late, the fridge ran out of beer and wasn’t restocked even though they had more, and there was usually nobody around to help. I often had to message Aldo myself.

The hostel had a great, friendly atmosphere, with people to hang out with and meet in the kitchen, and free filtered water. Breakfast was included and really nice: bread, avocado, bananas, mandarins, and tea. I stayed at Aldo’s to hike and start the Santa Cruz Trek, and Aldo was helpful from the beginning, sharing a guide to the best hikes nearby. It was the friendliest, most homey hostel I stayed at in Peru. He also has hiking and climbing gear to lend for a very reasonable price.

The rooms and bathrooms are both pretty small, but otherwise we had an awesome stay. The rooftop kitchen and terrace made it easy to meet other travelers, and there were lots of tours organized through the hostel. Would definitely recommend.

I booked this hostel at the last minute, and it turned out to be one of my best decisions. It felt like a little family, and Aldo gave me great advice and support with hikes and activities. The breakfast was a lovely bonus too. I’ll definitely come back!
