I paid $10 a night for a private room and stayed for a week and a half. There were several working outlets, and even though many tours left very early, other guests never woke me. The staff also changed my bedding without me having to ask. At first Fernando seemed pleasant and accommodating, and the hostel sits beside a beautiful park, though it was under construction. I didn't feel truly welcome, though. When I got sick more than once and asked for help, I didn't feel anyone was concerned about my welfare. The toilet paper kept running out, the shower water was unreliable, and the bathroom often smelled bad. My room had lots of flies at first. I washed my breakfast dishes, while most people left theirs for staff to clean. Dogs barking and car alarms were constant, though that's not the hostel's fault.

Vacahouse was a letdown for us. We've travelled for two years, and it doesn't take much effort to keep a hostel clean and have staff who are friendly and helpful. We were disappointed overall, even allowing for different standards in South America. The room's frosted glass door let light in all the time, and the windows and room needed a deep clean. The photos didn't match what we got, though our private room did have a bed and bathroom. Wifi was terrible, the shower only trickled, and hot water took ages. Breakfast was just a banana, bread roll, jam, and juice. Staff didn't engage. We booked because the ratings and reviews were 10/10, but this wasn't a 10/10 hostel. There are plenty of similarly priced places, or some that cost a little more and might be better.

The kitchen was decent and breakfast was basic but fine. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the owners were nice. Watch out on the stairs up to the front desk, they're very slippery. Also keep an eye on your belongings: my flat iron was stolen. I think it was the new temporary cleaning lady they hired for the season.

We only stayed a night, and the beds were very comfortable. Our third floor room had a private bathroom, but the shower gave only a trickle of hot water and there was no water at the sink. The windows aren't sealed, so you hear every sound. Being in front of the plaza means it's loud during the day, and we could also hear some kind of event at the main plaza nearby. Breakfast was included: bread with butter or jam, a banana, artificial orange juice, and tea. The kitchen looked usable, with pots and pans in good working order, but we didn't cook. There's no microwave.

The staff were generally friendly, and the location is central, but the hostel wasn't great. There was no noise insulation at all, so sounds carried from the street, the nearby square, and other rooms. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Water was very unreliable while we were there: our en-suite had no water for part of the morning, and the other shared showers had no hot water.
