Hostal Campo Base Huaraz

The restaurant was good, and its staff were kind and nice, but the hostel was bad. It wasn’t clean, and getting a hot shower was difficult. The hostel staff were rude and impolite. After 9pm, one of them banged on our door and yelled at us, asking why we hadn’t left. Our reservation was through the next day, and it turned out to be the staff member’s mistake. He made us come down to the office, checked, and realized he was wrong. All he said was sorry. So rude.

The owners are the coolest, and one evening they even invited me to a casual game of football. I came to Huaraz every day for coffee and craft beer from Huaraz and Lima. They speak English well and were really helpful arranging trips. You’ll be impressed whether you stay in the hostel or come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They also have local craft beer options. Absolutely fantastic place, well worth a visit!

Google lists this as just a hostel, but they should mention the cafe too. It’s a good one, with great music, vegan options, and friendly staff. A nice place away from the busy road. And the garlic mushrooms are for serious garlic lovers!!!

The kitchen is amazing, with lots of people cooking and hanging out every night, so it’s easy to meet others. The breakfast is great, and the staff made me feel very welcome and helped me plan my treks around Huaraz. When I left, I could leave some of my things behind, which really made it feel like home. On Saturday a group of musicians played in the square where the hostel is, and the vibe is so good, with almost all the best bars and restaurants in Huaraz on the square. It’s the best hostel I’ve stayed in so far. I’ll definitely stay again when I come back for the huayhuash trek!
