Hostel Mr. Llama Lodge

The room was dirty, and so were the towels. We’d paid for a private bathroom, but the staff let other people use it. They also argued with us about the deal we’d booked through bookibg and wouldn’t include breakfast. Breakfast turned out to be just four slices of bread. When we complained, reception claimed he’d said the room cost 35 a night plus 10 for breakfast, which wasn’t true. They laughed when we asked for the breakfast money back. Not a good stay. Don’t stay at this hostel!

Our booking was cancelled on the day we were due to arrive, even though it had been confirmed twice before. Nobody apologized or seemed to care about the trouble this caused, and there was little effort to sort it out. The manager kept hanging up while we tried to resolve things. Under pressure, Mr Llama offered to put all three of us in another hotel. The replacement room only slept two. He quoted 120 soles, though it turned out to cost 60, and the taxi he promised never showed up. A pretty awful experience from start to finish.

We didn’t actually stay. We left for Wild Rover instead, which was the complete opposite experience. This was the worst place I’ve ever booked, without question. There was no one at reception, and we waited outside for 20 minutes. Then they couldn’t find our booking for ages. The pool and bar area were full of young children, apparently staff members’ kids, with nobody else around. We’d booked a deluxe double room, but were told Peru doesn’t have double rooms, so they gave us twin beds. The only thing that seemed deluxe was having a TV. It was covered in dust, and the room looked filthy from the doorway, like it hadn’t been cleaned properly. We got no refund. The owner repeated over the phone that nowhere in Peru offers double rooms. Absolutely shocking. Avoid. This is the first review I’ve written.

We booked more than three weeks ahead, but when we arrived on the day, they’d given our room to someone else. They said there were no other rooms or beds anywhere in the hotel, so we were left with nowhere to go. The staff didn’t apologize and made no effort to help us find somewhere else. The customer service was shocking. Save yourself the hassle and book elsewhere.
