DoubleTree by Hilton Iquitos

We were only here for one night because it came with our river boat package, and I wouldn’t stay again. The hotel feels neglected, with old, stained, dirty carpets and furniture in the rooms, reception, and bar. Our room, 514, smelled musty, and the staff looked shabby. It seemed management was doing the bare minimum, and the place badly needs renovation. The noise was the worst part. On Friday night, a dance event on the first floor was loud enough to be a real nuisance. They also sell day passes for the pool, which can bring in outsiders and leave it crowded with kids. Between the events and pool access, it felt like paying guests weren’t the priority. There must be better places to stay in Iquitos; do some research and you may find a better option for a little more or even less.

The staff were great during our stay, but since then they’ve been very unresponsive to calls, emails, and chat messages about an item we left in the room. The hotel is close to the marina for river or Amazon tours, and about 40 minutes from the airport.

Lunch was tasty, and it’s a nice place to spend some time. But the taxi to the airport they arranged cost 100 soles. The hotel we’d stayed at before our cruise had charged 45 soles, so this felt like a rip-off.

With infrastructure in Iquitos fairly limited, the DoubleTree is about as good as you’ll find. I appreciated the location, the restaurant food, round-the-clock security, and especially the excellent customer service. They clearly choose their staff carefully. Fabrizio, Luisa, and the security guard made my stay memorable.
