Eduardo at the front desk was kind, and that’s why I’m giving one star. The location was good, in a safe neighborhood near Kennedy Park and other interesting places, but we had many problems and hope the administration improves things. The biggest issue was privacy. After cleaning, our windows were left wide open, and our room was beside a hallway used by other guests. People passing could see our computer, purses, underwear, and other belongings. I felt exposed and that my privacy had been violated. The room had high windows that were always open, a weak door lock, and no fan or A.C., so we didn’t feel secure and thought someone could get in easily. There was also repeated loud banging from other rooms, like someone hitting a wall with a hammer, which disrupted our rest. Smoking was allowed in a small area by the main entrance, despite a “No Smoking” sign there. It connected to the breakfast area and rooms, and every morning smoke spread through the whole area and into rooms. We told the front desk, but were told nothing could be done, even though it affected other guests’ health and comfort. The included airport taxi never arrived at our exit. We were sent to another exit and had to walk a long way with luggage. After several calls, the driver appeared an hour later with no apology or explanation. The room we got had both a queen bed and a double bed, which wasn’t what we expected. Breakfast was just bread, butter, jam, and a glass of juice; anything else cost extra. We expected something more decent when breakfast was included. I wish I had better things to say, but I don’t.

The breakfast was very poor, and even milk cost extra. They also charged a commission when we paid by Visa. The location doesn’t make the price worthwhile.

I saved money by staying here since markets, the beach, restaurants, shops, and parks were all close by. It’s a quiet, clean, and secure hostel, and I’d recommend it.

The host was really nice and did a few extra favors for us, which helped a lot. There were a couple of small things with the room, but overall it’s a nice place to stay.
