Oscar and Corona, the staff, were always on top of things and ready to help. I had a good time in Lima while working, and the hostel is fairly close to the historical center in an area that felt safe enough. For a budget backpacker wanting to explore the city on foot, it was a nice experience. A couple of things to keep in mind: the narrow openings on the sides of the rooms leave them exposed to the weather. They get cold when it rains and the temperature drops, and hot when it’s warm outside, almost like sleeping outdoors. The room description doesn’t mention this. Also, make sure the payment terms are clear from the start. The owner first tried to charge me at a higher exchange rate, saying it covered his commission. After negotiating, I got him to accept the price listed on the platform. It felt a bit sketchy.

I’ve tried other places, but I keep coming back to Iquique. It’s close to the city center and lots of amenities, and it works well for a smart, independent traveler. I’ve stayed here when passing through Lima for the last 8 years, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The value for the price is excellent. There’s noise from outside all the time and from other rooms sometimes. Lima, like much of Peru, is a very noisy big city, and I don’t think you’ll find a quiet hostel here.

For three days and two nights I had a private bedroom and bathroom. The room was comfortable, and the hostal was neat and clean. Breakfast was bread with butter and jam, yogurt, and tea. It was good value, and I’d stay again if I had the choice.
