La Casona de Lobitos - Cowork

The view is impressive and the location is great. But this didn't feel very backpacker friendly: there was no kitchen, no lockers, and the beds were horrible. The toilets were the worst and dirtiest I've ever seen in a hostel, and none had a working flush. The beers were grossly overpriced too.

The old house is beautiful and the view is stunning, but I found the facilities poor and the staff unfriendly and unprofessional. Before checking into our dorm, nobody told us it didn't have a hot shower. When I asked if we could use the bathroom in another dorm, they refused. Reception didn't seem interested in finding a solution or even discussing whether we could pay extra to use a shower. After eight months in South America, that didn't feel cool. I also left my ring at reception before going surfing and only noticed after checkout. I tried contacting the hostel several times by text and got no reply for a week. Then they said they hadn't seen it and cleaned the desk every day. There were barely any people around besides staff, so things don't just disappear without a trace. It felt like nobody cared about taking responsibility or helping a guest with a problem. I've left things at hostels in Peru and other countries before, and none had let me down like this. This place suits surfers who aren't too picky. The house is almost 100 years old and very rustic, so don't expect anything fancy. From here you can see the Lobitos point, Generales and Muelles surf spots, plus a little of Piscinas. If you're after somewhere fancy, La Casona probably isn't for you. I loved having a beer while watching the sunset over the point, one of Lobitos' best.

Probably one of the best hostels around. The dorm was clean, there's a spacious shared area, and the ocean view is lovely. It's just a minute from the surf spot. The internet is really slow, but that's a problem in this city.
