Colonial Plaza Hotel

Breakfast was awful, and I’d expect there are much better hotels for the price. The receptionist was playing music through speakers at 6:30 in the morning. :)

I wouldn’t stay here again. I was here as part of a group tour, and both times I was assigned the same room, the shower taps only gave scalding hot water. The first time I had to call reception to get it fixed. Two days later, after another tour, the problem was still there, and at 4:30am no one was available to help. We had to leave at 5:15am, so I couldn’t shower. I shouldn’t have to call the front desk every time I need to use it. The room hadn’t been cleaned between days. The floor was dirty and the bed was dusty. It seemed like they only emptied the bins and changed the towels. Breakfast was horrible. The bread was stale, even after we asked for more. Staff had said there would be vegan options, but the canned soy milk was inedible, and the avocado was too, with black strips and spots all through it. Other people in the group said the other choices were just as bad. My boxed breakfast was only fruit. I wish they’d made me a sandwich like everyone else.

We had a lovely room facing the courtyard at this nice hotel near the center of Puno. The shower was tricky to operate, but the manager came to help. He did have an attitude, though.

The manager really stood out for his service. When a mix-up left us without a room for our second night, he booked us into another hotel and helped carry our bags there. We were leaving too early for breakfast, so he brought us a prepacked one by hand. We were very impressed with the service. Our room at the Colonial Plaza hotel was spacious and tidy, and we had a lovely stay. The downside was noise at night: most rooms face the courtyard where reception is, so we could hear the phone ringing and guests arriving late.
