Psygon Surf Camp

The people working here were incredibly kind, and the animals around the place were adorable. It’s outside the busy center, but you can walk along the beach or take a tuk-tuk. There were activities, yet even on the so-called party nights I could sleep without earplugs. Maybe that was because it was winter and low season. My room was a good size, though the shower taps were rusty and the sheets could use replacing. I didn’t mind much, it suited the sandy, hammock-filled, hippie backpacker feel, mozzies and all. I’d recommend it without hesitation.

I booked for one night, but stayed only about an hour. The bathroom was disgusting and had no toilet seat, and the mattress was really uncomfortable. The bed was full of bedbugs. Don't come here.

The bar was nice, with deals through the week, including 2x1 on some cocktails, and the staff were friendly and tried to make us feel welcome. Breakfast was just okay, and the same plate came each of the three days we were there. There were lots of flies and other bugs, though that seems normal for Máncora. Most of the people working there seemed like young travelers, and I think they should hire more locals.

There was always a lively mix of travelers from different places, and we had a great time. The owners were awesome, and volunteers put in four hours a day to help things run smoothly. The bar stays open until midnight, and the food at the bar and restaurant was great. Try the Popeye sandwich at the bar. Breakfast was included, but pretty skimpy, mostly bread and powdered coffee or tea.
