It’s a shame, because some of the staff and the owner are really nice. But the rooms are very basic, and the thin walls let you hear everything from next door. Sleeping past breakfast was impossible, with noise outside and daily cleaning of door frames and windows right beside the bed. We weren’t told a checkout time when we arrived, and there was no written one. Then we were asked, quite unfriendly, to leave before 10 a. m. and told we’d have to pay for our luggage if we wanted to stay longer. In all my couple weeks travelling in Perú, nobody had asked us that way.

The staff are really, really nice, and for 40soles (cv 12usd) a night, this is one of the best-value hostels in town. The rooms are basic, the walls are thin so it can be noisy, and there’s no hot water. Breakfast is included but basic too. It’s a 5m walk from the tourist restaurants, and close to the main market if you need to cook. There’s also a swimming pool, which is quite useful in hot weather.

The owner made me feel like a burden before I’d even reached my room. The WiFi didn’t work, and the beds were so thin and uncomfortable I could feel the duckboards. I stayed just one night and won’t be back.

A really welcoming, friendly host. I can only recommend it.
