B&B Sun Gate

The owner was welcoming and let us leave a bunch of our things here while we went to Aguas Calientes. We stayed four days in Ollataytambo before Machu Picchu, then came back for an extra night after MP. We had a room with a shared bathroom. Everything was always clean and working well, and there was always hot water for showers. The owner took good care of the facilities. There’s a pretty yard full of plants, plus a common room where breakfast is served each morning and guests can work or read on the sofas. My only criticism is the WiFi speed. In a town like Olla, I wasn’t surprised, and it wasn’t a dealbreaker. If we’re in the area again, we’ll come back.

It’s a cute little place at the quiet end of town, which suited me since I don’t like noise and chaos. The rooms are nicely appointed, and there’s a patio outside where you can sit or walk. The staff were cordial and on top of things. I’d heard there might be issues with the hot water, but ours was good this morning.

The garden is very pretty, with a view of the ruins, and the staff were nice and helpful. The owner was unfriendly, though. There was no WiFi, the room was very cold, and the small kitchen wasn’t practical to share. We had noise in the daytime and evening, no reliable hot water in the shower, and a toilet that kept malfunctioning.

My friend picked this wonderful place in the mountains. There’s no heater, and the nights are cold, so bring one. An electric blanket is a better, lighter option.
