The garden rooms were lovely and finished to a high standard. Most are small bungalows, with one floor below and one above. We visited in November, during the low season, and the hotel makes a point of keeping guests out of the rooms beside the trains when it's not busy. It's a special place in the old railway building, right on the platform for trains to Machu Picchu. The garden at the back is great, and there's also a school for local kids. Owner Wendy has made something special here, and I hope her children keep it going. The reception is also Vernice, especially Luis at the front desk. Breakfast was good. The restaurant wasn't so impressive, particularly compared with others we ate at in Peru. They also offer a “Pacha Mama” meal in the garden, a kind of BBQ using hot stones underground. It was nice enough, but expensive for what it was. The meal includes a visit to the very small coffee roasting and distillery operations, which weren't very interesting. Neither seemed to be running when I checked, although staff said they were. I came back the next morning and saw no activity.

Maria at the front desk was a wonderful person to meet at the start of our adventure. She welcomed us with a smile and made us feel so important. The location was wonderful, and the property's sustainable farm-to-table side was a real treat. We had an incredible stay at El Albergue. Try the panchamanca lunch, it was definitely one of the highlights of our adventure so far!

The food, attentive and friendly staff, and beautiful setting all made for a wonderful stay. Our rooms surrounded an exquisite garden and were beautifully appointed, with some original artwork by the owner. The property also has its own organic farm, coffee roasting facilities, and distillery next to the hotel, supplying its main dining room and café, which opens onto the train platform. We also loved the Pachamanca feast by the farm, if you get the chance to join it. El Albergue in Ollantaytambo feels like a real oasis. It's right along the tracks and attached to the train station, a unique and charming location. You can walk into town easily, yet the grounds feel tucked away on their own. We felt lucky to find this gem. If we make it back to Peru, it'll be at the top of our list to visit again.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, but we didn't have hot water for a shower in the evening. Since the hotel is right on the platform, the first train wakes you at 5am. Breakfast doesn't start until 6am, which seems ridiculous when so many people are up earlier for hikes and trips. They already have a counter on the platform selling food and drinks to non-guests, so it's not as if nobody is up and about.

The room was sparkling clean, and breakfast at the restaurant was fresh, delicious, and generous. The hotel is inside the Ollantaytambo station, yet was unexpectedly quiet for that location. I'm giving four stars because the room was too warm for us and the hotel had no portable fan. The receptionist suggested opening the window, which would've been difficult with the trains running.
