Hotel Residencial Los Frayles

The bed was the most comfortable one I slept in anywhere in Peru. My room was small, but the price was fairly low, and breakfast came with the stay. It really wasn’t very good, though there are lots of nice little cafes for breakfast. Since it was included, I stuck with it. I stayed two nights.

My colleague had the same dampness problem in another room, and I had trouble breathing in mine. It didn’t feel healthy. I asked on two separate days to change rooms, but they refused. It was low season and many guests were only there for one night, so I find it hard to believe no other room was available. My window faced the hall and a wall, like many of the rooms. With it open, someone could easily get into the room, which felt unsafe and left me without much privacy. Reception was so-so.

Our sea view room cost 73 SGD per night. The hotel only has nine rooms facing the sea, and just three are on the fourth level, so I can see why it may have taken a while to get ours ready. We arrived at Hotel Residencial Los Frayles at 2pm, but couldn’t get into the room until 3pm. It had a double bed, a table set up to enjoy the sea view, and an outdoor balcony. The room was inconvenient, with no small table and no bathroom shelf, so I had to put everything on the floor. The bedding was okay, and I slept well after a very long, enjoyable day. Breakfast was an overcrowded buffet, and when I got there many things were gone, including eggs and bread. The pineapple pieces were good. I picked this hotel because my bus and tour agency recommended it and used it as a meeting point. It’s centrally located, though not great, and I’m not sure there are many better choices nearby. My room wasn’t ready at the stated 2 PM check-in, which caused problems because I was soon leaving for a guided visit. I had to leave my luggage in an insecure, publicly accessible storage area with a sign saying the hotel accepted no responsibility. The receptionist didn’t seem concerned. This place doesn’t deserve its self-awarded three stars. Try somewhere else if you can.
