Hostal Andenes

Breakfast was the best I had in Peru, and the rooms are all singles or doubles with en-suite bathrooms. But this place feels like a hotel conversion that hasn't picked up the backpacking spirit. There's no guest kitchen or shared hangout, and they seemed reluctant to switch on the lights. A hostel sign by the entrance would also make it easier to find.

Victor was really informative, and we booked tours through him. The breakfast was nice too. The main square is just a short walk away, so the location is very central.

The rooms are spacious and the staff were very good. The person who checked us in was especially warm and welcoming, and the hotel itself was fine, though there’s room for improvement. Breakfast was okay, but they were out of eggs, which would have made it better. A couple of things caught us off guard. Parking isn’t available at the hotel, so you have to use the street or pay for a garage, and that wasn’t mentioned on Booking.com. Also, the listing said our room had a private bathroom, but it was shared with the room next door. We got lucky because nobody was staying there, but guests should know.

The location is excellent, and the price is good. Our room was great, with plenty of blankets and a heater for the cold, plus hot showers. Breakfast was very good too, especially by Peru hostel standards.
