La Casona de Yucay Hotel

We only saw a few other guests during our two nights in the Sacred Valley, so I expected the Wi-Fi problem in our room to get a bit more attention. It didn’t work, and when we asked about fixing it, the staff didn’t seem to acknowledge the issue. The room itself was a decent size, though ours had no particular view, and its interior felt dated beside the beautiful grounds. The property is a lovely 18th-century estate, with mountain views that make for a wonderfully peaceful setting. It has breakfast and dinner, a traditional bar and an outdoor pool. Breakfast was just okay, like the room, not bad but could be better. We ate dinner there too. The food was good, but quite expensive, seemingly the premium you pay for the convenience of dining where you’re staying.

The cocktails and bar food were wonderful, and breakfast was great too. There were games like UNO, Twister and Connect4 to keep the kids occupied. The gardens and grounds are picturesque, and the staff were very attentive. Everything was clean, though a bit dated, and the beds weren’t the most comfortable. I’d still definitely come back.

I’d happily return to the hotel, but I wouldn’t eat at its restaurant again. The food wasn’t great for the price: the lomo saltado portion was quite small, and the octopus dish was almost gourmet-sized. The prices were what you’d expect at a hotel of this caliber, so it’s not cheap. The hotel itself is beautiful, with lots of greenery in Urubamba and very comfortable rooms. I attended a wedding there, and the service was excellent.

The property was fab, though there isn’t much else around the hotel. I stayed there as part of a tour.
