The excursions and local guides were the highlight, and the hotel arranged everything for us. The staff worked hard to make the stay special, and the food was good too. Our bungalow looked out on an unbelievably beautiful view. This Marquesas island feels mystical and far from the rest of the world, a truly rare experience we'll treasure and hope to repeat.

We tried the Sunday brunch for non-hotel guests. It cost $40 USD each, but by 11am much of the food had been picked over, so it didn't feel worth the price for the meal. That's island life, I guess. At least you can relax by the pool, which was nice.

The views from both the restaurant and our room were incredible, and the infinity pool felt like a real luxury. Our room was lovely, with sweet touches like flowers on the bed and a little monoi gift. We spent three nights here on our honeymoon and were so glad we did. The staff were kind, approachable, and very helpful. A few times they went out of their way for us. I’m French and my husband is British, and everyone treated us wonderfully, so I was puzzled by the comments saying the staff were racist toward French people. Maybe you get what you project? 😘 We hope to return to Hiva Oa someday and treat ourselves to a few more nights there ✨

We had a wonderful afternoon with their sailors' day pass, which runs from 10am to 4pm and includes lunch and a taxi ride to and from the port. We returned another time for dinner, and they arranged port transport again. Email works, but calling is better.

The service is what stays with you here. The owners are present and put a rare amount of care and love into Hanakee. The setting is incredible and the accommodations feel like they're from a movie. Be warned, you may end up falling for everyone who works here.
