The pool was the main disappointment: in our four days there, we got to use it just once. On the other days it was closed for cleaning or being used by a sports team staying at the hotel. Our apartment was spacious and clean, and the location was central, within walking distance of the market. The kitchen had only basic amenities and, notably, no microwave. We could do our own laundry with the washing machine and dryer. The cleaning staff were wonderful, cleaning the apartment daily even though we only put the sign out once. It could use some maintenance touch-ups, but the air conditioning cooled well and the beds were soft.

Our stay was nice. The room got cleaned every day, and the staff were kind and polite. The one issue was that restaurant orders took a while to arrive. Overall, it was good.

The receptionists were terrific and worked hard to make our stay pleasant. At night, they even spoke with the chef and persuaded him to make an omelette when I was vegetarian and didn’t want to pay for the buffet’s meat dishes. Otherwise, the a la carte menu is the same as at other Coral Sea properties, though better cooked than at the Bird of Paradise Hotel at Garoka. It gets boring quickly, especially for vegetarians, who have limited options. The hotel is central and feels safe, with security, a front gate, a small pool more suited to kids, and an airport shuttle. Rooms are very clean, and the hot water and electric generator work well. Check the air conditioning when you check in: it didn’t work in our first room. In the second, it was lovely and cold for two nights, then only blew air on the third night.

It’s not very large, but the place feels spacious and has a nice, simple setting. There’s a swimming pool in the yard, an indoor dining area, a wide catpark, comfortable rooms with nice shower and toilet facilities, and a pokies area. Security is good. A perfect place to hide away.
