Holiday Inn Express Port Moresby by IHG

I went there for drinks with friends and had a great, laid-back day. The hotel had a lovely atmosphere and quiet surroundings, and the staff were quick and friendly.

This is the newer of the two Holiday Inn properties facing each other, though some photos show the other one. If you know the Holiday Inn experience elsewhere, this place will feel familiar: clean and comfortable, without much extravagance. The rooms were comfortable and clean, with good beds, though a little dated. There’s an in-room safe, an iron and ironing board, blackout curtains, somewhere to sit besides the bed, and a small desk area. The television didn’t seem to have service, so bring your own entertainment. The bathroom was comfortable and clean, with basic toiletries, a Western-style toilet and a shower. I found the carpet a bit concerning in such a humid place. After several years in Asia, I prefer hard floors for cleanliness. Check-in was easy with a reservation made in advance. Early or late check-in depends on availability. IHG members were recognized, amenity points were provided, and upgrades were available when possible. Wi-Fi was generally good, although audio or video calls occasionally dropped. Breakfast is included for hotel guests, or you can pay about $15 USD. The buffet has eggs, toast, sausage or bacon, hash browns, tea, coffee, juice, fresh fruit and yoghurt. On weekends it gets busy, and they can struggle to keep enough plates, cups, cutlery and food available. Quality ranges from acceptable to a bit questionable. Specialty coffees and a limited selection of baked treats or sandwiches are sold separately. Room service can be ordered from the in-house restaurant at the Holiday Inn & Suites across the way.

The location is very central, and the hotel’s hospitality does a good job of meeting customers’ needs. The rooms are impressive for what you pay.

In my experience, the services here are next level and the hotel feels world class. Holiday Inn Express in Port Moresby is also one of the few low-cost hotel options in PNG. For tourists looking for somewhere to stay in PNG, I’d say it’s quite okay.
