The Sanctuary Hotel Resort and Spa

There’s so much greenery at The Sanctuary that it feels more like the jungle than the city, though it’s right in the heart of Port Moresby. My room was spacious, clean, and well appointed. The secluded pool was always available for a peaceful break, and the atmosphere was relaxing. The food is terrific, and the staff are well trained and responsive to guests’ needs.

A quiet place to stay for work or leisure, and good value for the price. The rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and attentive, and there’s Wi-Fi and dining on site. A comfortable mid-range hotel.

It’s a very quiet place to relax, and I’d recommend this hotel when visiting Port Moresby or Papua New Guinea. I do think a fitness centre would round out what the hotel offers.

The staff were consistently friendly and keen to help, and the menu was reasonable, with mostly local food plus enough Western choices for a short stay. My room was nice, but it went unserviced for three days. Management fixed it after I raised it, though it suggests a breakdown in oversight. The location is very quiet but also somewhat remote. Without your own transport, the shuttle is the only way to go out, since there’s no safe way to get around nearby on foot. Whether that’s a problem depends on your trip. Most people don’t walk around Moresby anyway. I stayed five nights, and overall the experience was reasonable.
