8Th Street Guesthouse Hostel

I stayed here in October 2019 for a night because it was near my appointment. It was very cheap and convenient, and the WiFi was good. I slept in a comfortable bunk bed, the temperature was nice and cool, and other guests were respectful. The bathroom could be cleaner or nicer, though. I was glad they provided towels, toothbrush, shampoo, soap and unlimited free water. The pillow was fluffy, and the bed and linens were clean. Check-in and checkout were easy, and Jollibee is right beside the place. A great stay.

The location was good, set away from the busy streets but near good restaurants and 24-hour fast food. The employees and front desk were friendly and ready to help with information, and they offer laundry and scooter services on site. Prices were good too. The entrance is through a mechanic shop at the front. There was no hot water for the tabo bucket bath, and no showers, though I didn’t check the other washrooms. I booked four days but left after about eight hours, after a cockroach landed on me and woke me up in the private room. I’m not especially picky, which is why I stay at hostels. I asked to leave and was charged a 20% fee after explaining what happened. If they’d shown me another room and tried to help, I might have felt better, but I just got a look as if this was normal. They could do better with brighter lighting and a better downstairs washroom. They should install showers and stop using the downstairs office as the private room.

Booked a bed space back in 2018, so this is a late review. They couldn’t find my reservation from booking dot com. It was noisy and dark, there were water interruptions, and we didn’t feel safe. For the price, I thought, why not? But I could have found somewhere much better for just a little more. I thought I was saving on accommodation, but I also lost out on good sleep and a fresh bath.

We had plenty of room in the barkada room, and the low rate really does help you save. That was the one good thing for me. The bathrooms are shared instead of being in each room, and even though they were somewhat clean, that didn't make up for it. No free towels either. For a room meant for 10 people, having just two outlets is a real problem. You can stay cheap here, but keep your expectations low.
