G&B Hostel

The room on the third floor, Room E, had a fan and was okay. They’ve added an exhaust fan, which is a nice idea. Wifi was provided automatically at check-in and was very fast. Towels, toilet paper, soap, and shampoo were included, and smoking isn’t allowed indoors. The shared toilet serves two rooms and was well maintained, though the place itself looks a little old. Cleanliness needs work, especially the dusty window and curtains. Staff were good to me and answered my questions well. One staff member called me Sir in a text, and I suggested using Sir/Ma’am when unsure who they’re messaging; she apologized, and I said it was okay. The location is very convenient, with Mini Stop, Big time burger downstairs, a BBQ spot across the way, and CNT lechon a minute’s walk away, plus a bakery and other shops.

It felt more like a guesthouse than a hostel, and I couldn’t see why it had three stars. The room was only 9 square meters instead of 25, the bed was barely made, and there was no TV. Wi-Fi was slow. The room hadn’t been cleaned properly, with mold under the kitchen area and dirty kitchen utensils. It’s called hotel of the year, but nobody seems to know where it is.

Guadalupe has plenty close by: cheap street food right across from the hostel for dinner, plus a bakery, laundry, and Mini Stop, which is like a 7eleven. There’s also a nice buy-one-get-one burger place. Staff were really friendly, and the rooms were clean and not expensive. A Jeepney to Cebu city center takes about 20 minutes and costs 7PHP.

The room was small but comfortable. There’s no TV, and the air conditioning is shared between two rooms through an exhaust. The bathroom is shared too. It wasn’t very clean, perhaps because some users aren’t careful about cleanliness, though the hostel does make an effort to clean it.
