Coron Westown Resort

A small detail made a real difference during our stay: we could ask for clean towels whenever we headed out for outdoor activities, like island hopping, diving, night swimming, or hiking. Since we were often in and out of the water, we really appreciated that thoughtful convenience.

Our girls loved the pools, and every staff member we met was kind and helpful. The room itself was spacious, but the showers were a major problem. The small bathroom shower wouldn’t turn on, and the larger one only produced lukewarm water with very little pressure. Its tile floor was slippery, too. We reported the pressure issue and were told maintenance had been notified. Later, when the big bathroom toilet stopped working after a Christmas delivery, maintenance came and worked on the shower as well, but the pressure seemed unchanged. By later that day, the toilet had stopped working again. We hadn’t booked Coron Westown, we’d booked MO2 Lagoon across the street, but after they overbooked us we were “upgraded” to room 216. It was a big inconvenience, and the supposed upgrade meant a room without a working shower and no extra perks.

The room was roomy but felt cold, the air conditioner was very loud, and the voucher Wi-Fi didn’t work properly and only lasted 43.5 hours. The price confusion was the biggest issue for us. After a system error meant our first night at Coron Westown Resort was treated as an “upgrade” from MO2 Lagoon, my partner and I decided to stay the remaining two nights. We were quoted 2,600 pesos, and a receptionist confirmed that was the price for both nights. The next day, reception said it was 2,600 pesos per night, or 5,200 total, something that hadn’t been explained. When I raised this, the receptionists seemed unconcerned and gave fake smiles. They hesitated when I asked for the manager, then told me to come back later, but a few minutes after I returned to my room, someone called to say the manager would come up. The manager was respectful and very apologetic, and said it had been a miscommunication by reception. There were other surprises with charges and requests. A receptionist forgot my request for beach towels, which also cost extra to rent, and I had to remind her after she got distracted. We weren’t told the airport van cost 500 pesos until the morning we had to pay. The hotel’s interior looks lovely, but I can’t recommend staying here. Service felt poor and inattentive, and the resort didn’t meet our expectations.

Everything felt close by, whether we took a short trike ride or walked, and the entrance was elegant. The rooms were beautiful, and I even got an amazing upgrade. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Housekeeping were especially kind and attentive, and the check-in staff were among the best I’ve come across. They made me feel like royalty. Very impressive.
