GMG Hotel

It took 30 minutes to change 4 dollars for the person ahead of me, and then an hour to change my 60 euros. The exchange rate is very high. I travel a lot and have been all around Asia, and the Philippines is probably one of the last places I'd choose to go. This place is a good example of why. Everything is expensive here, and I don't see a reason for it, especially when people live with such poor quality of life. Dogs with skin diseases are all around, and the streets, like pretty much everything else, are dirty. People are kind and nice, but they don't seem to know better or likely to learn. I accept cultural differences and historical reasons, and suppose I should take other things into account too.

Lin and the other staff gave us useful tips about Coron, and Lin, the proprietress, was kind and accommodating. We had breakfast before our tours on both mornings. The rooms were mostly clean and spacious. They were trying to fix the Wi-Fi, but during our stay it only worked in the lobby, not in the rooms. I’d stay here again.

Some of the staff were good and helpful, but there are cheaper hotels with better facilities. We checked in to a different room with the same layout because the one we’d booked wasn’t ready. The toilet wouldn’t flush and the TV had no reception. We asked to move our things to the original room and come back after housekeeping finished cleaning it. Breakfast was available, but the cleaning staff didn’t tell us and was supposed to check with reception first. We bought breakfast elsewhere and weren’t refunded.

The balconies and roof had good views, and the room felt solidly built, with a nice finish and interior design. The woman at reception was nice too. Still, check the room carefully before deciding. The big sign showed attractive room prices, but those were per person, so we had to multiply the cost. Our discounted rate included a light breakfast, but the toast and coffee weren’t worth having. The air conditioner was so noisy we couldn’t sleep, and the shower water stopped heating. Neither issue was fixed for 36 hours, so we left. It wasn’t a terrible place, but those problems mattered.
