Mo2 Lagoon Coron

The staff made our weeklong stay feel like a real vacation, and I'd consider booking here again if I return to Coron. Breakfast was better than the usual quality I’ve seen in the Philippines; dinner was acceptable, though I'd eat out for a really good meal. The pool is lovely, with every room arranged around it. You can choose a second-floor room with a balcony overlooking the pool or a first-floor room with direct pool access. The price felt fair for what we got. It’s a good spot if you want somewhere quieter than the town center. The center is a short 10m tricycle ride away, about 80 php. If you want to walk straight out into the middle of town, you may want to stay elsewhere, though it’ll be noisier.

The room had some problems: the sheets looked stained and seemed like they hadn't been changed, and the air conditioning wasn't powerful enough to keep us very comfortable. Breakfast was disappointing too, both for quality and choice. Still, we got good value for the money, and the pool was a lovely highlight. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A special mention for the bartender, who made excellent espresso martinis and really knew his craft. MO2 Coron Lagoon Hotel is a reasonable budget pick for a short stay in Coron, though there's room for improvement.

The stay itself was fine, but I was given assurances twice and charged anyway. I checked at the front desk whether breakfast was included in our room, then got charged after eating. I was also told there'd be no fee for an extra face towel, but it showed up on the bill at checkout. Hard to trust what the staff say after that.

The staff were kind and helpful, which was the one good part. The room, though, felt like it hadn't been maintained or updated since the hotel opened: cracked walls and tiles, old furniture, and a persistent moldy smell. The bathroom smelled of sewage, the towels looked grey and dirty, and the aircon was so loud that light sleepers may struggle to rest. I don't understand how the rating is above 4. I wouldn't say it deserves that. I'd go somewhere else.
