Treetop Suites

The shower pressure was so low that getting wet took me 20 minutes instead of my usual three. Still, for the price I’d come back. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect, with restaurants and bars all around. It’s a standard hotel, but it keeps things to a good standard. There’s a small pool, fine for a quick dip, and you can book island hopping and other tours at the front desk. We were out on tours most of the day anyway. You can also get a solid breakfast plate to start the day. I’m not that clean anyway!

The WiFi never reached our room, which was a big letdown. The staff also didn’t seem especially warm when we came and went. They weren’t rude or shy, just less friendly than hotel staff here usually are. The location is handy for the main spots while being off the main road. The rooms are nice, with hot water and the basics. Since it’s in a busy area, you can hear the street at night when there’s activity, but it wasn’t anything crazy.

We paid about $36 a night and stayed at the Treetop Suites from October 6th to October 10th 2024. The pool itself was clean, but the fake grass around it looked like it had never been cleaned. From there, you could see the back wall of the hotel was badly neglected: the gutter was rusted out, the wall needed paint, and the wall-mounted AC units looked disgusting. The room had bugs flying and crawling around. After looking more closely, I concluded they were termites, and there was a pile of what looked like sawdust from them on the wooden dresser. The bathroom had mold and a rotten wood door, and water drained poorly from both the shower and the bathroom floor. When we took our shoes off, the floors felt slippery, almost slimy. My guess is that the cleaning detergent left residue. Arriving in Coron was exciting, and the weather was great despite a little rain. But our experience gave us the impression the building wasn’t being maintained. I’d choose a better-kept hotel next time, even if it cost a little more.

The front desk staff were quick and friendly whenever something came up, and they even packed breakfast for us when we left at 6am on our last day, before the kitchen opened at 7. We stayed a week. The premium room was a good size and the air conditioning worked well; the standard family room was acceptable. Management didn’t communicate well with the front desk, and the cleaning staff kept forgetting to replace towels and shampoo. Still, the helpful service made up for it. Nice, central hotel.
