The water around Nici is incredibly clear, with lots of fish, including Nemo. The island is a quiet little place to relax. You’ll need to bring your own food and cook in the well-organized kitchen, though breakfast is provided free every day and made by the owner, Brian. He’s the kindest, most courteous hotelier we’ve met, and knows plenty of people who can help with tours, transport, places to stay in Coron, and more. Just ask, and he’ll do his best to help. We highly recommend his lovely island.

Booking on Nici Island is like having an island of your own, and you don’t need to spend more on island-hopping trips. The island has a nice beach and untouched coral reefs. Highly recommended if you’re going to Coron, Palawan.

At night, go down to the harbor and look up at the stars. It’s a tiny island, perhaps only 400 meters around, with a remote lodging run by a farang, a Westerner. A friend booked it through Facebook. The unreliable generator meant the electricity was patchy, and the Wi-Fi barely worked. You also have to buy your own food on Busuanga Island and cook it yourself, and the facilities aren’t quite adequate. Still, I’ll never forget the warmth of the owner, the farang, and his family, or the unusual feeling of staying in a home on a small Philippine island. It was a once-in-a-lifetime encounter in a place you may never get to again.
