The restaurant let us down on the first night. They had no Pale Pilsen, red wine, or white wine, and it was warm inside, so we went elsewhere for dinner. That was inconvenient given the hotel’s location. Breakfast was advertised as a buffet, but on our first day they served it plated without telling us in advance. One restaurant staff member was overly chatty and didn’t seem to notice that we wanted a quiet morning. Room maintenance was poor too. The shower was over a bathtub, and its drain didn’t work when I bathed. The hot water came and went, and the kettle kept boiling without stopping, which felt like a safety concern. I reported the problems to the front desk, but the staff seemed disorganized and couldn’t clearly say what they’d do, so I had to keep asking for updates. Housekeeping told me to lift the broken drain knob manually, even though they admitted it was broken. They initially dismissed the kettle issue until I insisted they replace it. They moved me to a room they called “fully functional.” The shower drain worked there, but the sink drain didn’t. I was exhausted from meetings by then and didn’t complain again. For what they charge, that level of upkeep is unacceptable. After checkout they also required an “exit pass” while inspecting the room. I’ve never encountered that at another hotel. It felt like being discharged from a hospital. This was very disappointing and not worth the price. I’d given Sotogrande another chance after a bad experience in Baguio, hoping that had been a one-off, but staying at Sotogrande Davao proved otherwise. Poor maintenance and inconsistent service. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The walls were thin enough that we could hear noisy guests in the hallway and the people next door talking loudly until morning. It was hard to rest. The concierge staff weren’t accommodating when I asked to park briefly at the front so I could use the restroom. They insisted I move the vehicle and wouldn’t let us park near the entrance, even though a space was available. Guests have to park behind the building, where there are only one or two lamps and it’s poorly lit. We then had to carry our luggage back to the hotel.

The security guards and women at the reception desk were polite and nonjudgmental. They sincerely apologized when our request to pray in a quiet corner was declined, and I understand the hotel has its own rules. Still, it would have been much better if Muslim guests and potential clients could use a quiet corner of the spacious lobby to pray while waiting for Grab Car. A small Musalla or prayer room would be helpful and might attract more Muslim guests. The interior and exterior look classy, and many employees tried to be cordial and accommodating. I remember being able to pray a few times in a carpeted, air-conditioned room at the Marco Polo hotel. Today we had a picnic on the grounds near the hotel, somewhat close to the football fields. Thank you for understanding ✨

Checkout took 40 minutes. Earlier, while the Aurora Festival was on, I went back to the hotel near Crocodile Park but couldn’t get in because I’d left my keycard in the room. I called my friend, who was already inside, but the guard still kept me out, saying he needed to “confirm.” He wasn’t doing anything or calling reception. After several minutes, I showed my ID and booking confirmation with my name, and only then did he let me enter. I understand why security checks are needed, but his handling of it was rude, unprofessional, and unnecessary. He didn’t apologize. It shouldn’t be so difficult to enter a hotel I paid for. I stayed at Sotogrande because it was close to the festival, but the experience with security was terrible.

We really regret booking this hotel. The aircon was so noisy and switched off in the middle of the night. We complained, but when we came back it was still doing the same thing, so we had to change rooms in the middle of the night. We got no sleep, and one of our group had a very early flight. The service wasn’t worth the price. Worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in.
