Hidden Garden Pension

The owner was friendly and helped us sort out everything, from an island-hopping tour to the ferry to coron. We stayed two nights in a good-sized, clean room with cold air con and hot water. It was a quiet little oasis away from the street noise, while still close to everything. There was construction next door when I wrote this, but I never heard it from inside the room, even though some people had complained. I’d stay here again if I came back.

The caretaker was welcoming and helpful, and they regularly replaced or refilled things like towels and tissues. The location is easy to get around from, with Townsquare, restaurants, pharmacies and more within walking distance. We did have bedbugs, which was the only bad experience, but we got rid of them with a hot iron, hehe.

We booked more than a month ahead, but now the hotel has cancelled our reservation because it was overbooked. They left us without any similar options. Be careful when booking this accommodation.

We paid $180 for two rooms, but when we arrived the staff didn’t seem to know we were coming. There was no greeting or welcome, no Wi-Fi password, and no water. They simply pointed us to an available room. One room didn’t even have a toilet seat. When we asked them to fix it, they said they couldn’t do it until tomorrow, and told us we could check out if we didn’t like that. There was no apology, and they were rude about it. I’ve never been treated like this. If I’m paying and something is wrong, it’s your problem, not mine. I tried speaking with the owner, but she was rude too. She said I could leave if I didn’t like it and that I wasn’t being understanding. Shouldn’t a room you pay for already have a basic toilet seat? With no water, we couldn’t shower right away either. After more than an hour of trying to sort it out, Ian showed up, treated us like human beings and apologized. The water was fixed by evening. The other room was quite old, and the floor seemed to have water on it all the time, with some of it soaking into the curtain. This is no way to treat paying customers. The owner is Kay, and she should never work with people or be allowed near them. Some of the other staff were nice, but the owner and Kay were horrible. In our experience, this was the worst place in the Philippines. I’d strongly advise against staying here.
