Laule'a Hostel

You can walk to the port from here, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars around. A nice place to stay right in town.

Breakfast or other meals are easy to enjoy on the hotel's cool rooftop. The staff are lovely, and the rooms are very clean. The shower pressure was much better than at other hotels we've stayed at in town. It's a great little spot in the city center.

Christina at the front desk was really helpful, but I wouldn't stay at this hostel again. We got the “penthouse,” which was tiny and had lots of ants. The view was nice, though getting up there was a rough climb. The stairs looked unfinished, and the third floor was dusty, with cobwebs, a bird's nest and droppings. I read it was being renovated years ago, so I guess the owner just forgot about it.

The bed was comfortable, and breakfast was simple but good. Our one night in the small Penthouse came with a nice view, though there were loads of ants on the bed when we arrived. I asked reception about changing it and was first told they only change beds after two nights minimum. I said we couldn't sleep on ants, and he said he'd check. A woman came and changed the bedding within five minutes. In the morning there were plenty of ants in the room and, thankfully, not on the bed, but many had got into our bags.
