Returning the motorbike turned into a really upsetting experience. I’d booked it for seven days, Sunday to Sunday, but brought it back on Saturday evening because our flight was early the next morning. The hostel was holding its Saturday party, so someone was there to take the bike. The man handling the rental first tried to charge me for an eighth day. When I said we were returning it on Saturday, within the agreed dates, he got angry and raised his voice. He then said we’d arrived on Saturday, but I showed him photos on my phone proving I was still on the plane to siargao on Sunday afternoon, and that it was now Saturday night. I told him we could talk it through calmly, and that I’d pay extra if I’d got the dates wrong. He kept speaking to me aggressively, saying it was late and they wouldn’t normally be there without the party. I offered to bring the bike back the next morning if that was easier. He took the helmets, turned away, and checked the bike. When I asked why he was angry and said I wanted to sort it out calmly, he replied, “im not getting mad,” though his tone and expression still felt hostile. He’d been nice to my friends and me during our stay, so the sudden change was a real letdown. I paid for seven days, used it for seven days, returned it in good condition, and still felt talked down to even after showing proof. He walked off, and I was left in tears. Our private room for four was also too small for us, though I suppose you get what you pay for. I’ve never been treated this way as a customer, and I can’t understand why I was shouted at when I’d paid the right amount and tried to handle things properly. If this is how the business lets staff deal with problems, I don’t think it will last. I often support local businesses in siargao and come back to the island, but hang loose won’t see me or my friends again.

One of the better hostels I stayed at on my trip. The location’s handy, with plenty of clubs and restaurants close by, and the staff have a relaxed, easygoing manner. I especially loved the people I met there. The rooms are fairly clean and have good air conditioning, you get a towel, and the bathroom is decent. For the price, it’s well worth it. Definitely recommend.

I stayed about two weeks at this nice hostel, in a very good location. They’re strict about not allowing visitors at night, and twice a week there are parties that go on until 3am.

The open layout worked well for me, and I prefer a fan to AC because it feels healthier. It can be breezy during the day and chilly at night, so the fan was fine. The hostel is near the places I wanted to go, with little local shops around, and it’s cheap enough to suit a longer stay. Still, there’s quite a bit that could be better. Noise was a big issue. Guests sometimes stayed loud past midnight, and the staff could be firmer about the noise rules. The parties were also loud. I know parties are common in Siargao, but people in this residential area need sleep too. Starting around 9 pm and finishing at midnight would be better than 10 pm to 4 am. Housekeeping and the hostel staff could be hard to find when needed. I sometimes saw a staff member on their phone or relaxing before changing bed linens. The manager wasn’t very nice either. I saw her scolding staff during work hours, which could affect them for the rest of the day; correcting them after a shift would make more sense. On my previous stay, Vivi was reliable, thorough, helpful, friendly, and attentive to guests, but she wasn’t there when I returned. There were big rats around, and one even got onto my bed, so snacks aren’t safe to leave there. The place needs pest control. The toilet and shower often smelled bad. Guests need to be considerate, though cleaning more than twice a day would help. Also, Agoda made it sound like I was booking an AC room, but I ended up with a non-AC one. That listing needs fixing for future guests.

The rooms are on the small side, but decent enough for the price, which is super cheap. The toilets were nice, and the location was good. All good.
